Plughole Planters: Our Focus

The main focus of Plughole Planters is emphasising the sustainable, upcycling, CO2 negative (environmentally positive) aspects of our products. We are in partnership with Veolia and MRWA, who supply discarded acrylic baths, shower trays and kitchen sinks (which have a CO2 positive footprint) to us, instead of going to landfill or incineration.

We partnered with Lancaster University Eco Hub, for an internship, and the final report confirmed that the UK is predicted to dispose of 2.4 million acrylic baths per year. The carbon footprint of acrylic bath production was found to be 107.27 kgCO2eq.

Plughole Planters were found to have negligible environmental and human health impacts, with a negative carbon footprint of -33.64 kgCO2eq. Therefore, our products have the potential to be used for carbon credit trading.

CO2 Negative Reducing Landfill

We have been in dialogue with our local council (Sefton), who advised that our product would be an asset to large companies. Supermarkets, DIY superstores etc. who, when applying for planning permission to build on new industrial sites, have to demonstrate how they will mitigate the loss of trees and green spaces. Our planters are seen as CO2 negative reducing landfill, and providing receptacles for plants that would otherwise not have been there. Plughole Planters is actually giving something tangible back to the environment.
